Every summer has that shirt. The shirt that never gets folded or hung. The shirt you accidentally wear three days in a row. The one you peel off when it gets too hot. The one you leave on a fence. The one you throw back on for drinks when the game's done. The one that gets jammed into the bottom of a duffel bag as you race to catch the ferry. The one you turn back for. Sleep in. Garden in. You pull it on for a bike ride. For morning coffee. For an early morning practice session. A long evening that goes well past dusk.

By late August it carries the season. A little sun. A little sweat. A little dirt. Maybe some paint. A stain you stop trying to remove. A little rip you come to like.

It becomes less like a shirt and more like a record of where you've been.

But right now when the days are endless and everything feels possible, and the whole summer is still unfurled ahead, you know: this will be that shirt.

Soon, you’ll find your song of the summer, your summer drink, your summer pals. You’ll nail your backhand roll this summer. You’ll hit your first Erne and finally chill out enough to understand resets.

The season is still unwritten.

This isn't a shirt to preserve.

It's a shirt to live in.

Two summers from now, a lover will appropriate it from you. Or you’ll reach for it the morning after your kid moves out. And realize it went with them.

“How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.”

-Paul Bowles, Sheltering Sky

The haziest, saltiest, sun-faded, bug-splattered, almost-missed-the-ferry, one-more-game-before-dark photo from your camera roll. We'll choose our favourite and send you a Long Day shirt in the colour of your choice.
